Allergens in margarine
Bakery margarine often contains milk and soya, even when the tub says vegetable fat. Some cake margarines are milk-free and soya-free. The front of the box is not the specification.

The usual pattern
A typical bakery fat is vegetable oils, water, salt, emulsifier and flavour. Buttermilk, whey or milk proteins are common. Soya lecithin is a common emulsifier. Sunflower versions exist and change the label.

How to write it on the label
PPDS food needs the name of the food and a full ingredients list, with the 14 allergens emphasised every time they appear. The Food Standards Agency’s PPDS guidance is the practical reference. A typical ingredients fragment looks like this — yours must follow the specification of the product you actually use.

Where it shows up
Cakes, icing, pastry and cookies where butter was swapped for cost.
One margarine for sweet and savoury
The pastry margarine and the cake margarine in the same fridge can have different allergens. Name the product code in the recipe.
A vegan claim on the tub is useful, but the ingredients list you print must still match that tub’s specification.
