The problem

Food labels shouldn't take longer than the food.

Most small food businesses do this in Word, Canva or a spreadsheet. It works, until the fourth product of the week.

Copying the last label

Open the file for the cookie, save-as for the brownie, edit the bits that changed. Somewhere in there, a line gets missed.

Bolding allergens by hand

Finding every mention of milk, soya, wheat and egg in a long list and emphasising each one. Every time it appears, not just the first.

Typing the same things again

The same chocolate, the same flour, the same mayonnaise — retyped across a dozen products, each one a fresh chance to get a word wrong.

A supplier changes something

The lecithin in the chocolate changes. Which of your products use that chocolate? Which labels are now out of date?

Fighting the printer

Getting the ingredients list to fit a 60 × 40 mm label without it becoming unreadable, then doing it again for a different size.

Not being sure it's right

The nagging feeling that something is missing, without a clear way to check what.

How it works

Three steps to a print-ready label

No setup project, no onboarding call. The first label is the first thing you do.

  1. 01

    Add your ingredients

Paste the declaration from supplier packaging, photograph the pack, or type it. We split it into separate ingredients and keep compound ingredients in their brackets.

  2. 02

    Confirm the allergens

We show which of the 14 allergens we found, and the words we found them in. You tick what's right, add anything we missed, and it's saved to your library.

  3. 03

    Create the label

Ingredients ordered by weight, allergens emphasised, sized for your label stock. Download a PDF and print.

Reading a declaration

Paste what's on the tub. We'll structure it.

Supplier declarations are dense, bracketed and inconsistent. Pulling them apart by hand is where the mistakes come from.

Assistance, not a decision

We suggest allergens and show you the exact words we found them in. Nothing reaches a label until you confirm it. If we miss something, you add it — and you can correct any ingredient we split wrongly.

You stay in control

Nothing goes on a label you haven't confirmed.

An allergen is not a suggestion to be accepted quietly. Every one we find is shown with its evidence, and waits for you.

Confirm before it goes on a label

We found one allergen in that declaration. Nothing is added to a label until you say so.

  • SOYAfound in “emulsifier: soya lecithin”

Anything we missed, you add yourself. You are always the one who decides what is on the label.

Recipe to label

Quantities put the list in the right order.

Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of weight at the time the product was made. Enter the quantities once and the list orders itself.

Recipe · Chocolate Brownie
Example recipe quantities for Chocolate Brownie
Caster sugar300g
Butter250g
Dark chocolate200g
Free range eggs220g
Wheat flour150g
Cocoa powder40g

Quantities order the ingredients list by weight, the way the rules require. Change a quantity and the list reorders itself.

Ingredient library

Type an ingredient once. Use it everywhere.

Save the chocolate, the flour, the mayonnaise. Every product that uses them pulls the same confirmed information — so they can't quietly disagree with each other.

  • One confirmed version of each ingredient
  • Compound ingredients kept structured, not flattened
  • Supplier declaration and photo kept with it
  • Shared across every product that uses it

When something changes

Know which labels are now out of date.

Update an ingredient and LabelClear lists every saved product that uses it. The question stops being 'did I miss one?'

Allergen matrix

The chart everyone asks you for, built from your products.

Front-of-house needs it. Event clients ask for it. Environmental health may want to see it. Rather than maintaining a spreadsheet in parallel, generate it from the products you've already saved.

Printing

Sized for the label stock you already buy.

Download a PDF at your label size, or an A4 sheet laid out for a page of them. Allergens stay emphasised in bold capitals, which survives a monochrome thermal printer — a colour-only label does not.

  • Single labels at your own dimensions
  • A4 sheets for standard label paper
  • Bold capitals, not colour, for allergen emphasis
  • No proprietary printer or label supplier

Questions

Honest answers

What is PPDS food?
Food that is packaged at the same place it is offered or sold to consumers, and is in that packaging before it is ordered or selected — a sandwich wrapped before the lunch rush, a brownie boxed up on the counter. Those need a label with the name of the food and a full ingredients list, with allergens emphasised.
Does LabelClear decide which allergens my food contains?
No. We read your ingredient text and suggest which of the 14 allergens might be present, with the words we found them in. You confirm or correct every one before it reaches a label. The decision is yours, and so is the responsibility.
Does LabelClear guarantee my labels are compliant?
No, and you should be wary of any tool that says it does. LabelClear helps you produce labels in line with UK PPDS requirements, and links you to the official guidance. Your business remains responsible for the accuracy of what goes on the pack.
Can I paste ingredients straight from supplier packaging?
Yes — that is the fastest way in. Paste the declaration from the tub or the spec sheet and we break it into separate ingredients, keeping compound ingredients in their brackets.
Can I print the labels?
Yes. Download a PDF sized for your label stock, or an A4 sheet of them. Nothing is locked to a particular printer or supplier.
What happens when an ingredient changes?
Update the ingredient once. LabelClear shows you every saved product that uses it, so you know which labels need reprinting instead of trying to remember.
Do I need a card to try it?
No. The label generator works with no account at all. A free trial of the full product needs an account but no card.
