Bakewell tart PPDS label example
A Bakewell tart is a tree-nut product because of the almonds in the frangipane, plus wheat in the pastry and egg in the filling. Raspberry jam may contain sulphites. A fondant lid can contain dried egg.

Wheat flour, butter (milk), ground almonds, eggs, sugar, raspberry jam (sulphites), icing sugar, dried egg white.
- Almonds — tree nuts

- Eggs — frangipane and often the icing

- Sulphites — jam, if present
What this teaches
You cannot sell this as nut-free. Almonds are the point of the frangipane.
Is this PPDS?
Individual tarts in bags or a sliced tart boxed before sale are PPDS.
Questions
Is a Bakewell always almonds?
A traditional frangipane is almonds. A nut-free substitute is a different tart and a different label.
Does the jam matter?
Yes if it contains sulphites or is set with a mix that contains wheat. Check the jar.
